As a student, if you have a concern related to an academic issue that you are unable to resolve informally with your faculty and/or the staff, you are encouraged to file a grievance with your program director. If you disagree with your program director’s decision, you may appeal their decision to the Student Evaluation Committee (SEC). Decisions of SEC can then be appealed to the Executive Director of the College, the final step in the appeal process at the College.
Students will not be subject to adverse actions by a College official as a result of initiating a grievance or appeal.
Complaints that cannot be resolved by direct negotiation with the College in accordance with its written appeals policy may be filed with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). Complaints of an academic or non-academic nature can also be filed with program-specific accrediting agencies, the Federal government’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), or the U.S. Department of Education.
